Oh Mercury Retrograde…We meet again!
It’s that time of year and the third and final Mercury Retrograde of 2017 is upon us. We will be in the zone from December 2nd to December 22nd. Just in time for the holiday season!
Most people who don’t watch the planetary movements only notice that things become aggravating and more challenging around this time and they have no idea why. But for those of us in the spiritual arena, we know better. Some of us don’t mind the retrograde energy and can even thrive on it. But for the rest of us, we struggle to survive it with our sanity intact.
So what is the big deal about this transit and why does it freak everyone out? And why do we care if it happens around the holidays? If you aren’t well versed, here is what you need to know: Mercury governs communication, travel and mechanical & electronic gadgets. (Among other things.) Think you said something nice? Think again. Words tend to get twisted and misinterpreted easily. Did you make travel plans? Expect delays, lost luggage and other aggravations. Was your printer working great yesterday and now it’s shredding and jamming every piece of paper you put in it? Has it started smoking and stopped working completely? These are all examples of things that can go wrong during Mercury Retrograde.
Taking all of this into account, consider now for a moment, all of the things that occur during December. There are of course the traditional gatherings with friends and family as well as the inevitable holiday work parties. Some of us are lucky enough to live near our relatives. However there are many people who don’t have that luxury. This means that if we want to spend time with our family we need to hop on a plane or jump in the car to get there. When you start to think about what goes on during this month vs. the list of problems Mercury causes, you start to see the similarities between the two.
The good news is that Mercury will go direct on December 22nd. Right before the major Christmas holiday. If you happen to celebrate Hanukkah, unfortunately you will find yourself in the thick of it. But don’t forget that there will be a shadow period for several weeks following this transit that could still make things a little bumpy on a smaller scale.
Here’s a few things you can do to prepare yourself:
- Think carefully before you speak
- Do not have any serious discussions
- Just choose to let it go
- Avoid traveling if possible
- If you are traveling, prepare for the unexpected
- Do not have any serious discussions
- Laugh it off if you can
- Don’t purchase new vehicles, electronics, appliances or gadgets
- Give yourself extra travel time on the roads
- Don’t start anything new
And if all of these things still don’t seem to be working for you, check out my Mercury Retrograde Survival class where we discuss this transit in more detail, as well as use some candle magic to help buffer the more challenging energies of this planet.
