The Fall Equinox – Learning to Let Go

Fall Equinox

On this beautiful 22nd day of September the fall equinox is upon us. Many pagans know or refer to it as Mabon. But either way you view the Sabbath, it officially marks the changing of the seasons. After today the long warm days of summer are cut short and the dark cold nights of winter begin settling in. It is the end of the second harvest, and the end of the growing season until next spring.

Yet today everything is perfectly balanced. For the fall equinox gives us equal hours of day and night. And this is true for the entire planet. So no matter where on earth you are, the sun will put out the same amount of light everywhere that it shines. Bringing us all together in a unique way.

More specifically this year in particular focuses its attention on letting go. Letting go of things that hold us back. Letting go of old thought patterns or ways of doing things. Letting go of what no longer serves us. Letting go of what we expected. Letting go of the way we wanted life to be. And challenging us instead to open ourselves to the path that is unfolding in front of us.

Here are some ways to start letting go right now…

Meditating is an excellent way to let go. It changes the vibrational frequency of your body and puts you into a different state of being. Here you can connect with your higher self, guides or angels if you need assistance or advice on how to let go of things that are holding you back. If you are a beginner and have difficulty connecting in this way, simply ask what you need to let go of and see what comes into your mind’s eye. Once you have identified the issues, drop them into the center of the earth to release them from your life and from your personal space. The earth has a strong neutralizing force that can tame whatever energy is lingering in your space.

Practice Compassion. Many times the reason we get angry or upset with people is not so much about them as it is about us. What are they reflecting back to us that is making us so uncomfortable? Do we do some of the same things that we are getting upset at them for? If you look hard enough there is usually a trigger in each of these situations. And we can use that to grow and become a better more self-actualized human being. When we can do this and have compassion for ourselves, we can also extend that compassion to others. People act certain ways because of their own personal experiences. Which let’s face it, have not always been kind. Instead of getting upset at them, show them compassion and love. Even if they cannot return it. They need it more than you know.

Acceptance is key to letting go. So many times we are frustrated with the way things are. But the harder we try to change them, the more frustrating they can become. Just because something isn’t the way you want or the way you think it should be, doesn’t mean that the universe doesn’t have you right on schedule. Sometimes you have to just go with the flow and see where it takes you. Be open to the possibilities.

Celebrate the fall equinox with me today. Let go. And just breathe.
