Activating Your Spidey Senses
As a professional tarot card reader, intuitive and healer – everyone always asks me how it is that I do what I do. They are fascinated by my intuitive or psychic abilities because of the way they work and how accurate they can be. While every member of the spiritual community has different gifts and areas of expertise, the ways in which we receive information are the same. If you’d like to learn how to be psychic and develop your skills, please check out my class Learn to Be Intuitive.
Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing)
I find clairvoyance to be the most common of all the psychic abilities, yet it sometimes it’s the hardest one for people to comprehend. The definition itself seems easy enough. But putting it into action is where people sometimes get tripped up. It’s confusing at first to know how and where you will see things, the way these visions will appear to you and figuring out if they are actually real or not.
The easiest explanation I received was that its “like your imagination – but it’s not your imagination.” The visions and information you see will appear to you in a similar fashion. But you need to learn to tell the difference between things you are imagining and actually intuiting information. This skill is something that will come to you over time as you practice and continue your work. And as always, meditation really helps with your visualization process.
For me, my visions come several ways. When I first started they would flash across my mind like a movie. Or project out from my third eye onto what I can best describe as a miniature drive in theater screen. After that I would see transparent images of people or things for a few brief seconds. Just long enough to decipher what I was looking at. And lastly I began to see energy in different forms in my home, outdoors and in other homes and buildings. Everyone has their own experience of how their abilities unfold, so don’t judge your experience against what everyone else is getting.
Clairaudience (Clear Hearing)
When you are clairaudient you will hear information. It may come from Spirit directly, through one of your guides, or a spirit looking to connect with someone specific. While hearing random voices can sound scary, for me this one isn’t as nerve-wracking as it sounds. My guide’s voices are always very calm and neutral. So messages are easy to receive. Messages from spirits looking to connect will get a little frantic with me about something from time to time, but it really doesn’t take much to calm them down quickly. Usually they just want to be heard.
I think it’s important to address that this one can be kind of scary if you don’t understand Spirit or what it means to have psychic abilities. You might think you’re losing your marbles or that you have the beginnings of a psychotic disorder. And that’s not a good place to be. It’s always good to do your research before assuming the worst. Please know there is a spiritual community out there to support you and help you make sense of your abilities.
This is the second ability I developed and at first it was tricky to make sense of the messages and figure out if they were my own thoughts or something else. But once I got past that it has turned into a really helpful skill for me. Usually I get all my messages in my left ear. So many people see me tilting my head that way to lean into the messages, or even looking that direction like an invisible person is whispering in my ear.
Clairsentience (Clear Sensing)
If you’re an empath then this one’s for you. People who are constantly absorbing the energy around them are considered clairsentient. They are constantly picking up on emotions or physical sensations. For example: You might find yourself in a bar after midnight feeling a little tipsy without ever having a drink. You might walk into a building and be so uncomfortable you have to leave. You could be enjoying a pleasant dinner with a friend and an angry person sits down at the booth behind you. Suddenly you’re in a terrible mood and being an absolute jerk to your friend. These are all different types of experiences that you may encounter as someone who moves through the world by sensing. You feel everything!
Since it can feel really challenging to be absorbing things all the time, I’m going to share with you a trick I learned for easing some of the discomfort and discombobulation. If you’re suddenly feeling overwhelmed emotionally, realize that it may or may not belong to you. To find out you should take a deep breath and say “I release what isn’t mine.” while picturing a wind blowing through your body and taking with it anything that’s not yours. If you experience intense emotions in a particular space, it’s always ok to leave so you can reset your energy.
Claircognizance (Clear Knowing)
This one is kind of different because the information doesn’t really come from anywhere specific. It’s something ingrained in you that you somehow just know. You don’t have any facts to back it up, but you know without a doubt that you are correct. It’s like if someone asks you what color clouds are or to describe what a car looks like. These are things you know without having to question it. And that’s what having this ability is like.
I don’t get this one often but it has happened. And sometimes it makes you question your sanity slightly. You know the information almost as if it’s a memory of something someone told you or that you have already experienced, but it isn’t an actual memory. And the confirmation that you are correct usually comes from a future event or conversation that happens. But if you know, you know. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Your intuition knows what it’s doing. Learn to work with it.
Clairalience – (Clear Smelling)
With this psychic ability you can smell things that not everyone else can. It could be as simple as smelling a specific perfume, the scent of fresh brewed coffee or stifling smoke from a fire. The important thing to remember here is that these are not just random scents – they are messages! Perhaps the perfume you smell is the same one your grandmother used to wear. Or the coffee was a favorite drink of someone who has passed away. And the smoke indicates someone whose home burned down in a wildfire. These are all acknowledgements from Spirit to help validate our work.
I had this once with a coffee smell that would permeate my friends Jeep. Often times I’m the only one smelling such things, but this time my friend who owned the car said he smelled it too. And it was something that happened frequently, especially when there was no coffee in the car. It turns out he purchased the vehicle from a woman whose husband had passed away. And he was a big coffee drinker! So every time we got inside the car and smelled the coffee we would say hi to “Joe” and know he was riding with us.
Clairgustance – (Clear Tasting)
This occurs when people get a taste in their mouth that shouldn’t normally be there. Many times it’s something specific you receive that is giving you information about a particular person or situation. If someone tastes cake or sweets, it could be an indication that that person had a sweet tooth. Ive seen a medium before who said she tasted blood, which for her meant that the person passed away from a particular type of blood related disease.
This type of ability can be extremely helpful if you are working as a medical intuitive who is trying to assist people with their health. Or for a medium who is trying to connect people with their loved ones and relay information or provide them with confirmation. This is never something I have personally experienced, but it’s a really interesting way for Spirit to get its information across.
I know this is a lot of information but I wanted to help you understand each of these psychic abilities better. I want you to know how your intuition works so that you can draw parallels between these psychic abilities and your own personal experiences.
If you want to get better at any one of these psychic abilities, my advice would be to practice and test yourself. This way you can get validation that the information you are intuiting is correct. It’s the validation that will give your confidence and let you know where you need to make adjustments or do some more work.
